July 4th

On the 4th of July we will celebrate our independence and the birth of our nation.
An event that qualifies as a genuine miracle. I am a student of history and I particularly enjoy reading about our Founding Fathers. This is one of the things that led me to adopt the miracle theory. The Founding Fathers were far from perfect. They were in many cases deeply flawed men. Some cheated on their wives, some were financially irresponsible, some were capable of holding petty grudges and most had out sized egos. In spite of that their talents balanced each other out perfectly. That such a collection of men could be at the right place at the right time in history is truly a miracle. Without that mix of talents we very well could have failed.
History confirms this. How many other revolutions were a success. I can think of none. All others descended into anarchy or tyranny. Two prominent examples are the French and Russian revolutions. Many nations take many decades after a revolution to truly become free countries. Some have still not done so.

The question is why? I believe that like ancient Israel was created so that it could be a light on to the world so to is it the mission of the US to be a light onto the world. This we have done by defending Freedom and inspiring people around the world who yearn for Freedom.

Mother Theresa once said a similar thing about the USA in a filing with the Supreme Court. I no longer have the exact quote but it was to the effect that we had been an example to the world and while we did not always live up to the ideal we presented we continuously strove towards that ideal and that was why we were an inspiration.

We are the shining city on the Hill.

This Fourth of July I will take a minute to thank God for the miracle and pray that as a Nation we do not loose sight of the ideal we represent and that we continue to defend the cause of Freedom.
